Wherever you are in Malta and Gozo, you cannot fail to notice a great number of churches, large and small. Someone once claimed there was a church for every day of the year, but this was apocryphal, a romantic, if not religious, vision. The records of the Catholic Church in Malta state there are 359 churches distributed among 84 parishes in the Maltese islands. However, there is also a countless number of historic, small but charming chapels hidden in towns, villages and the countryside as well as churches belonging to other Christian denominations.
The aim of this series of volumes is to present a brief description of a selection of these small churches, locally known as chapels, highlighting their historical background, architectural features, and religious significance. The inherent beauty of these interesting buildings is further emphasised through the professional photographic presentation of their precincts together with their external and internal features.
