Palazzo Gomerino is one of the most beautiful country villas in Malta and is often referred to as the Red Palace. Gomerino Valley is a beauty spot north of Rabat. Its deep valley caught the imperceptible summer breezes making it an ideal refuge from the heat of Valletta. Long ago the private property of the legendary Jean Parisot de la Valette, it passed on to the Testaferrata family, who still owns this idyll today. In this picture they have just arrived in their crested calesse, after what must have been a rigorously long journey from the new capital.
